Who Has The Cheapest Car Insurance

By Jim Bassett

In most countries and states today, numerous laws have been enacted with regards to their minimum car insurance coverage. A car insurance policy is not only seen as an important preparatory expense in the event of a car accident, it is also a legal requirement. Not having one can result to the driver getting his license revoked during registration or even suspended for at least three years, in addition this is a large sum as a penalty fee. To save on expenses and to keep them from facing stiff penalties, many car owners try their best to find who has the cheapest car insurance.

Car insurance companies can offer different rates depending on a number of factors.

One such factor is the car in use. The car plays an important role in determining the monthly and overall cost of the insurance policy. The car model, its age, its manufacturing year, its repair history, its present condition, as well as the overall risk of the car model are factors related to the insured car owner’s car.

Another important factor in determining the cost of the insurance policy is the driver of the insured vehicle. As a general rule, a teenager entails higher insurance monthly premiums. This is due to their tendency to be risky drivers. If the driver is no longer a teenager, the insurer will review his driving history as well as the traffic violations he has done in the past. Doing so will allow the insurer to evaluate whether the car insurance applicant is likely to run into a car accident.

By knowing these factors, the car owner can now have a rough estimate of how much his car insurance is worth. Doing so, he can evaluate whether the insurance policies he is offered with are affordable or expensive.

If a car owner is looking for the cheapest insurance policies, then those of older and trusted insurance companies should not be solely considered. This is because these established companies normally charge more than newer companies. However, it may not be true in some cases. In effect, the car owner should equally consider both new companies and older companies when comparing insurance policy quotes.

Newer insurance companies normally charge far less than the older and more established ones. This is due to the fact that the larger companies have a higher trust rating compared to them. Many car owners looking for car insurance companies normally look to these older and more established companies even though they cost more. Therefore, newer companies have to charge less to attract more customers.

A good way to find many newer and cheaper car insurance companies is through the internet. There are many sites at present that make comparisons between car insurance quotes. By providing all the needed details and information of the car owner, he can then gather results according to the insurance quotes. This way, he can clearly tell which company offers the cheapest car insurance policies.

Finding the best insurer should not be about who has the cheapest car insurance. Rather, it should be about who offers the best service. It is also important to remember that it is the responsibility of the car owner to review the coverage and the quality of the car insurance company he chooses even if it is the cheapest. Doing so, he can guarantee that he is fully insured in the event that he meets an accident.

Satirist Stephen Colbert runs for U.S. President

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

The American satirist Stephen Colbert has announced that he will run for the Presidency of the United States. He made his announcement on his mock news show The Colbert Report.

However, Colbert said that he would only run in his home state of South Carolina as a favorite son. He also said that he would represent both major political parties: the Republicans and the Democrats. It is not known how far Colbert will go with his character during his electoral run.

Colbert has hosted The Colbert Report, a spin-off to another satirical television series, The Daily Show, since its creation in 2005. “I didn’t have a job back then. I wonder what it was like to have a job back then. I am sure I could ask a dentist or a surgeon. He would know.” On the show he plays a right-wing political pundit, based on real-life pundits such as Bill O’Reilly and Stone Phillips. Colbert has been credited with popularizing certain words such as “Truthiness”, meaning to believe something intuitively, without regard for actual facts, logic or evidence.

Filling in for New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd on Sunday, Colbert wrote: “I am not ready to announce yet — even though it’s clear that the voters are desperate for a white, male, middle-aged, Jesus-trumpeting alternative.”

Signs You Need Air Conditioning Repair

byadmin

Most homes have either central air conditioning units or stand alone room air conditioners like window units to cool the living area. Both of these units require regular maintenance and occasional air conditioning repair over the years. ACs are built to last for many years of consistent use under extreme conditions. Evidence that the AC unit is not functioning at its best is increased energy bills. When the unit starts to fail, the efficiency plummets and results in increased consumption of electricity. A home owner can reduce fuel bills by regular tune-ups and need based air conditioning repair.

The window air conditioner consists of a motor, evaporator coils, condenser coils, compressor and other components. The main components of the system are sealed. If you need air conditioning repair for any of the sealed components such as the motor, coils or compressor you should consult with professionals. Minor repairs and scheduled maintenance can keep your unit functioning efficiently. Small repairs and maintenance can be done by the home owner.

Dirt can severely affect the functioning of your unit. The air filters and coils should be kept clean. Filters can be removed from the unit, brushed, cleaned and restored. In some units, filters are not replaceable. The old filters may have to be replaced by entirely new filters. During the summer, filters should be cleaned or replaced every one or two months. If you live in a dusty area, filters get dirtier faster. If you own a furry pet, the filters may need more frequent replacement. Dirt that penetrates beyond the filters will settle on the evaporator coil. The heat absorption capacity of the coil is reduced substantially by these sediments. This results in reduced efficiency of the unit.

The outdoor unit of an air conditioner should also be cleaned regularly. Foliage, dirt and soil can restrict air flow and cause the machine to function below its efficiency. The outdoor unit can be cleaned by the home owner to remove dirt, leaves and soil. Any shrubbery or foliage should be kept trimmed so that leaves and soil do not damage the unit.

Often the AC can malfunction because of a faulty thermostat or low levels of coolant or a variety of other reasons. If your AC refuses to start, bring down the setting of your thermostat. If the unit is not cooling, it could arise from a number of reasons such as low levels of refrigerant, dirty or blocked condenser and evaporator or faulty compressor. If your unit does not respond and you are unable to find a solution, call in professionals for air conditioning repair. DC residents can find experienced technicians in the area that provide comprehensive repairs for HVAC.

Volunteers gather to help patrol Arizona’s border with Mexico

Sunday, April 3, 2005

Volunteers from across the United States and some foreign countries gathered Friday to start an unofficial border patrol project.

They converged on the town of Tombstone, Arizona to take part in what organizers call the Minuteman Project.

Many came with personal firearms, cell phones or walking canes.

Most estimates numbered the group at 400 to 450 people, recruited from the Internet, far less than the 1,300 the organizers had hoped for, but “it was enough to send a message,” according to Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

“The federal government has walked away from this border,” he told some volunteers. He gained support and popularity for his stance against illegal immigration, but was characterized as anti-immigration in general.

“We are here to exercise what is a basic American right: free speech and the right to assemble,” he said.

Local citizens such as Luis Martinez, a third-generation Tombstone-area resident, were very unhappy with the developments. “They’ve come here to cause problems — to fight. Not to solve problems.

“I work in a ranch and all the ranchers use labor from the other side” of the border.

As Martinez fought back tears, he said he wanted to see the throngs leave Tombstone and go home.

During speeches delivered at orientation meetings, Rep. Tancredo was applauded loudly as he dismissed criticism from those who have called the volunteers racists and xenophobes. His fellow [[Republican Party (US)|Republican}}, President George Bush, described the group as “vigilantes.” Mexican President Vicente Fox used the term cazamigrantes — immigrant hunters.

Tancredo said: “We are saying to our government, ‘Please enforce the law,’ That is not a radical idea. That is not a vigilante idea. It is an American concept: the rule of law.”

Many of the volunteers, some from as far away as Italy, are bedding down in the nearby Miracle Valley Bible College for about $5 a night. Others are camping on the grounds of the run-down campus, about two miles north of the border.

Opposing sides were on the streets in Tombstone, although it appeared there was little contact or friction. Local, state and federal officers had mobilized in case confrontations arose.

James Gilchrist, a former Marine and a retired accountant from Aliso Viejo, Arizona, who ran the sign-up effort, said he expected more than 1,000 volunteers to help highlight the 30-day effort. The project’s goal is to patrol 23 miles of the San Pedro Valley, watch the border, and report illegal activity to law enforcement officials.

Many people fear that the project could result in vigilante violence. Organizers hope it causes the U.S. government to increase border patrols.

Tombstone is best known as the site of the 1881 shootout at the OK Corral.

Appalachia Mountains coal company plays State politics

Tuesday, August 2, 2005

Massey Energy Co., the fourth largest coal producer in the U.S., filed a federal lawsuit against the Governor of West Virginia, Joe Manchin.

Massey’s CEO Don Blankenship alleged that Gov. Manchin acted in retaliation against the company’s coal mining operations because the company spent $650,000 in an advertising campaign to defeat the governor sponsored pension bond proposal. The $5.5 billion bond proposal, intended to shore up the state’s sagging pension plan, was defeated in a special election held in June.

The Massey lawsuit, filed last Tuesday on July 26 in the U.S. District Court in the W.V. southern district, was referred to by Gov. Manchin as having less to do with the bond proposal than with the newly increased state “severance tax” on coal. Nearly 40 million tons of coal production will be subject to the 56-cent tax.

According to Blankenship, that tax amounts to $22.4 million in additional costs for the company, but he denied the increase has anything to do with the lawsuit.

The company reported profits that almost tripled during the second quarter compared to a year ago. Of the company’s rosy earnings picture, Blankenship urged states to “show some frugality” by not placing tax burdens on coal to solve state budget shortfalls. He said his company is “playing a role” because there was no need for the bond sale and the state can afford to make payments into the pension system.

Blankenship acknowledged during a conference call the now-rescinded June 30 permit by the W.V. Department of Environment Protection (DEP). At issue was the department’s permit for mining operations near the Marsh Fork Elementary School, in Sundial, W.V. The school rests at the base of a mountain selected by Massey for “Mountain Top Removal” (MTR) mining techniques. Along with the mining equipment, a coal preparation plant and a sludge pond were established on the mountain. Protest groups, mainly the Coal River Mountain Watch and Mountain Justice Summer, presented a list of demands to Massey officials that included shutting down the preparation plant, ceasing all MTR mining above the Marsh Fork Elementary School, and abandoning plans for a second coal silo near the school. They also ask that the Marsh Fork school be cleaned up or relocated. The state permit for a second coal storage silo was rescinded by the DEP the same day Massey filed the Manchin lawsuit.

Gov. Manchin in June said that Blankenship could expect tougher state scrutiny of his business affairs since the Massey media campaign against the pension bond proposal. “I think that is justified now, since Don has jumped in there with his personal wealth trying to direct public policy,” he said at an appearance at an American Electric Power event in Putnam County.

Preliminary report sheds light on SAS landing gear incident

Friday, September 14, 2007

A preliminary report by the Danish civil aviation authority, SLV, has shed light on the events leading up to a Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) airliner experiencing a landing gear failure upon landing in Denmark, one of two similar crashes that have resulted in the grounding of more than 60 of the model in question across the world.

The aircraft, a Bombardier Q400 (alternatively known as a de Havilland Canada Dash 8), crashed due to a landing gear failure after a nut worked loose, due in turn to rusting on the threads of its bolt, according to the SLV’s aircraft accident investigation committee report on Scandinavian Airlines Flight 1209. The nut and bolt were vital to the locking mechanism for the starboard landing gear, and consequently the structure collapsed.

The SLV does not specifically address why this occurred, but according to SLV spokesman Thorbjoern Ancker the problem is a design flaw, and not a maintenance issue as previously suspected. In his own words, ‘All speculation that this was an error by SAS is now shown to be wrong… It’s a constructional weakness.’ He explained that Bombardier maintenance documents supplied with the aircraft did not require maintenance personnel to inspect the bolt in question, and that accordingly this had not been done.

Pending completion of landing gear inspections by SAS, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish authorities will make a decision regarding whether the air carrier’s Q400 fleet should remain grounded, or be permitted to resume operations.

A spokesman for Bombardier refused to comment on the findings when contacted by reporters, preferring instead to wait until the publication of the final report into the accident. He did, however, make one comment regarding speculation that SAS would be compensated if the accident was proven to be the responsibility of the supplier, saying, “That will be part of the discussions between Bombardier and airlines.”

Scandinavian Airlines have canceled 111 flights today as their Q400s are grounded per Air Transport Canada orders, while SAS have concealed 110 flights today and tomorrow while their aircraft are grounded.

Bombardier have circulated a document to all operators of the type, containing advice recommending a revised inspection program.

Shares in Bombardier fell 14 cents, or 2.2%, to CA$6.21 and most recent reports have them at $6.25. The company is therefore currently valued at $11 billion. Goodrich, who manufactured the equipment, fell 9 cents, or 0.1%, to US$65.11. SAS, who own Scandinavian Airlines, fell 2.25 kronor, or 1.9%, to 115.75 kronor. A continuing fall in SAS shares prices over the last six weeks has almost negated all gains this year.
